Е-shops account for 11.4% of retail sales in Czech Republic in 2018

Internet's portion in retail sales keeps getting bigger, as Czech e-shops account for 11.4% of the overall volume generated in 2018, Czech News Agency reported, referring to Association of E-commerce’s (APEK) data. According to APEK sales revenues of e-shops reached Kc135bn last year, adding 17% y/y.

In 2018 Czechs spent roughly Kc62bn on services online, excluding betting, which is nearly 1% more y/y, while about 41% of Czech consumers’ shopping online went for Chinese e-shops, according to a recent survey of ESET and Seznam.cz companies. This is due to the much higher popularity of the Chinese e-shops than that of e-shops from the European Union and the USA.

The strongest online shopping day of last year was by far Black Friday falling on November 23, Czech News Agency added.
