Belo Monte hydroelectric plant activates its first turbine

The Belo Monte hydroelectric plant, which is located in the Pará state of Brazil, is planned to become operational as of February 17th, by activation of its first turbine with potential of 611 MW.

The project is owned by a consortium called Norte Energia and it is expected to reach installed capacity of 11,233MW, as soon as all 18 turbines start generating electricity.

Duilio Diniz, CEO of concessionaire Norte Energia, stated in an interview with Valor PRO that four new turbines will be activated to the end of the year, as scheduled one turbine every two months.
