Bolivia records $1bn trade surplus with India in 2014-2018

Bolivia’s trade surplus with India reached USD 1bn between 2014 and 2018, local daily El Deber informed citing figures released by the Bolivian Institute of Foreign Trade (IBCE). The general manager of IBCE, Gary Rodriguez, underlined that last year Bolivia recorded its largest trade surplus precisely with the Asian country – USD 517mn.

During that year, Bolivia imported goods worth USD 152mn from India and exported to this country products for USD 723mn. Rodriguez added that Bolivia’s gold shipments reached USD 720mn, accounting for almost all of the total exports in 2018.

In 2007 Bolivia’s exports to India stood only at USD 3mn while imports hit USD 20mn. However, over the last four years the trade between both countries increased significantly.
