Brazil’s industrial activity up 1.1% y/y in October

Industrial production in Brazil rose 1.1% y/y in October, CEEMarketWatch reported citing figures released by the statistics office IBGE. This growth came bellow the consensus expectation for 2.3% hike, but it also shows significant improvement compared with the 2% decrease recorded in September.

IBGE revealed that output of 17 of the 26 sectors tracked increased in annual terms in October. The automotive industry advanced 12.1% y/y during the analyzed month, while the metal products industry climbed 8.8% y/y. On the other hand, Food and electronic industries fell 8.4% y/y and 6.5% y/y, respectively.

In terms of use, the production of capital goods rose 10.7% y/y in October, while durable and consumer goods output increased 6.8% y/y and 1.6% y/y, respectively.

Industrial activity in Brazil also improved 1.8% y/y during the first nine months of 2018.
