Brazil’s industrial activity down 1.3% y/y in August

Industrial activity in Brazil declined by 1.3% year-on-year to 54.1pts in August, CEEMarketWatch reported citing figures released by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI). This y/y contraction could be explained by slow economic activity and the political uncertainty regarding October elections.

On the positive side, industrial output increased 1.9pts m/m to remain above the 50pt benchmark for third consecutive month. Sector’s expectations also improved significantly in August compared to the same month in 2017 and most of the indicators, including number of employees and investment, also advanced in comparison with May-July period.
