China’s manufacturing PMI remains unchanged m/m in June

China saw its purchasing managers' index for the manufacturing sector remain unchanged at 49.4 in June 2019 in comparison to a month earlier, Shanghai Daily reported referring to the national statistics bureau. The statistics office reminded that a reading below 50 indicated contraction.

Yet, more than half of all the sectors covered in the PMI posted readings of expanding production. Among those with monthly increases were the production sub-index for high-tech manufacturing, equipment manufacturing and consumer-goods industries.

According to economists from the statistics bureau, China’s PMI readings for the first half of 2019 showed the downward pressure on the manufacturing sector. Yet, the broader economy is expected to remain steady in the second half of 2019, Shanghai Daily added.
