Colombian exports up 6.1% y/y in February

Colombia’s total exports rose 6.1% year-on-year in February, breaking a 2-month negative trend, CEEMarketWatch reported citing figures released by the statistics institute DANE.

The sharp improvement was mainly driven by the fuel component, which contributed 3.9% to the total growth. In this regard, DANE underlined the positive swing of fuels and extraction component, which expanded 7.1% y/y in February recovering from the 17.6% y/y decline recorded in January.

The positive performance of the Colombian shipments during the month of reference was also underpinned by agricultural, foods and manufacturing exports, which increased by 8.9% y/y and 8.6% y/y, respectively.

On the negative side, the country’s exports fell 1.2% y/y during the first two months of the year, showing that February improvement wasn’t enough to offset the decrease posted in January.
