Colombia's retail sales grow sharply in May

Colombia's retail sales rose 8.2% year-on-year in May, accelerating sharply compared to the 4% y/y growth recorded a month earlier, CEEMarketWatch reported citing figures released by the statistics office DANE.

This is sector's best result so far this year and it was driven by vehicles sales which increased 7.1% y/y during the month of reference. Food and bavarages sales also expanded significantly – 9% y/y, while textile and tobacco and alcholol purchases advanced 4.4% y/y and 5.1% y/y, respectively.

Retail sales also grew 2.38% m/m in seasonally adjusted figures, with only 2 of 16 components showing deceleration in m/m terms.
