Daimler hesitates Poland or Romania – media

German carmaker has to pick a location for its new EUR 800 million engine plant and hesitates whether between Polish city of Jawor and Romanian Sebes, Ziarul Financiar reported on Tuesday citing industry sources.

“No decision about Daimler’s engine plant had been made until yesterday (April 28), even though the Poles bragged about it. Romania is still in the cards for this investment," local auto industry sources said. The investment will create 1,500 jobs.

Daimler has already acquired a land plot near its existing transmission plant in Sebes, central Romania. It has no production capacity in Jawor, southwestern Poland.

According to Polish media reports, the new plant will be built in Jawor, but the company failed to confirm these reports.

The head of Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche last year said that the group could invest in, but needs infrastructure and labour resources first.
