Total of 15.79m tourists visit city last year, new record-high for emirate

The UAE’s financial centre Dubai booked a 6.2% annual growth in international overnight stays for 2017, welcoming a total of 15.79 million tourists, TradeArabia reported referring to data published by Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism).

Thus, the emirate is moving closer to its goal to attract 20 million visitors per year as of 2020. Dubai’s ambition is to become the world’s most visited city and now it has firmly confirmed its fourth position in the list, the head of Dubai Tourism, Helal Saeed Almarri.

The number of tourists coming from Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe block grew by 51.8% on the year for 2017. The number of people from the Americas who visited Dubai rose by 7.7% and the number of visitors from Africa jumped by 6.7%, Trade Arabia added.
