Dubai sees number of consumer complaints rise 19% y/y in H1 2019

Dubai saw the count of consumer complaints jump by 19% on an annual basis for the first six months of 2019, Arabian Business reported referring to data provided by the consumer protection section in Dubai Economy. Over the reported period, the unit resolved a total of 17,768 complaints, up from 14,970 a year earlier.

The growth in complaints was explained with the improving awareness on consumer rights in the country, the ease of access to consumer protection channels as well as to the increasing confidence among shoppers in Dubai. Between January and June 2019, some 38% of the complaints came through the smart channels for consumer protection, Dubai Economy underlined.

The majority of the complaints were regarding the services sector. Yet, close in numbers were also fast-growing sectors such as e-commerce and electronics, Arabian Business added.
