Ethiopian Airlines’ passenger numbers rise 14% y/y in FY 2018/19
State-owned flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines saw its passenger numbers rise by 14% on an annual basis to 12.1 million in fiscal year 2018/2019, ended in June, CEEMarketWatch reported referring to a presentation made by the head of the company, Tewolde Gebremariam.
Over the reported period, cargo traffic went up by 8% on the year and the carrier managed to save USD 145 million under its cost-reduction initiative. Also, Ethiopian Airlines added six new destinations to the existing 115. The CEO underlined that airline booked stable performance despite the fiscal year being its most difficult one in its recent past.
For example, between July 2018 and June 2019, the company was affected by political instability, the media coverage of the ebola outbreak in DRC, weaker exports and withdrawal of aircraft following the MAX 7 crash, CEEMarketWatch added.Original source: CEEMarketWatch
