Experts expect a quasi-stagnation of the Romanian industry this year

Romania’s industry enters 2019 in a low mood registering a modest increase in January on stagnant output in the largest sector of Romania's industry – manufacturing, Business-Review.eu reported.

The industrial production rose by 0.7% year-on-year in January 2019. While the minor growth was mainly sustained by road transport and non-metal manufacturing, which are far from enough to put manufacturing on recovery, most of manufacturing sub-segments recorded annual production drops in January. With the Industrial demand almost freezing domestically due to new taxes introduced at end-2018, many experts remain cautious on the growth prospects of the Romanian industry and maintain their view for quasi-stagnation in 2019, Business-Review.eu added.

Account for almost one-quarter of Romania's GDP, Romania's industrial production in 2018 rose by 3.5%, a much lower rate that the official estimate of 4.5% and this poor performance has had an impact on the 2018 GDP value.
