Generali in talks to buy Metlife’s USD 2.2bn assets in CEE
Insurer Generali is reportedly in early talks to acquire the Central European assets of its peer MetLife, Bloomberg said, quoting a source with knowledge of the matter. Generali is said to be seeking expansion through acquisitions in high-growth markets. MetLife’s assets, estimated at EUR 2.2bn, are in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania. Both companies declined to comment on a rumour. Bloomberg’s source, too, said the talks are at a very preliminary stage.
