Iran has exported around 13,000 tonnes of tea worth USD 17 million in the first nine months of the current Iranian year, ending in March 2019, Thai EconomicNews Service reported referring to data provided by the head of the country’s Tea Organisation, Habib Jahansaz.

Over the reported period, the Iranian government has purchased about 112,000 tonnes of fresh tea leaves from local farmers and the leaves were used to produce around 25,000 tonnes of processed tea, Jahansaz noted. He also underlined that 100% of Tehran’s tea production had been shipped to the market.

The top importers of Iranian tea are countries such as India, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. The product is currently shipped to 34 European and Asian countries. On the other hand, Iran also imports tea, mainly from India, Sri Lanka and Kenya, Thai EconomicNews Service added.
