Lactalis acquires Itambé to lead diary market in Brazil 12/06/2017 | By Paulo Dias, EMIS Editor

Conclusion of acquisition depends on regulator´s appraisal

French company Lactalis announced on Tuesday the acquisition of 100% of Itambé Alimentos´ shares, company who is under control of Central Cooperative of Minas Gerais Rural Producers (CCPR). With this move towards the Minas Gerais based dairy company, Lactalis, who entered Brazilian market in 2013, becomes the leader in dairy market.

The deal, which value wasn´t disclosed, may have legal consequences since, according to industry´s stakeholders, Lactalis should not negotiate with CCPR for two years in relation to a previous – lost – negotiation for Vigor Alimentos acquisition.

In case of success, this deal will create "the leader in national dairy production", highlighed CCPR and Lactalis in a joint statement. Valor has learned that both companies expect the conclusion of the deal in the first half of 2018. Until then, the acquisition of Itambé Alimentos will be matter of study by the industry´s regulator – the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).
