Malaysia’s manufacturing sales rise 5.7% y/y in March

Malaysia’s manufacturing sales went up by 5.7% on the year to MYR 72.4 billion for March 2019, The Malaysian Reserve reported referring to data provided by the country’s statistics institute. The good result was attributed to an increase in sales of food, beverages and tobacco products as well as of petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products.

The sales growth resulted in an increase in the number of workers in the manufacturing sector. Their count grew by 1.8% on an annual basis to 1.09 million people. Also, the amount of salaries rose by 5.1% year-on-year to MYR 4.06 billion.

For the period between January and March 2019, manufacturing sales in Malaysia grew by 6.1% on the year to MYR 210.6 billion. Also, over the first quarter of 2019, the overall labour force in the country rose by 2.2% on the year to 15.53 million people, The Malaysian Reserve added.
