M&As in UAE more than double y/y in 2018

The UAE saw mergers & acquisitions (M&A) deals in the country more than double to USD 10.4 billion for 2018, Gulf News reported referring to data provided by M&A data and intelligence specialist Mergermarket. The total deal count in the region over the year went up by 15 deals to 148.

The most significant contribution to the M&A deal increase in the Gulf country was made by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). Over the year, the company made a series of seven divestments on its energy assets worth USD 6.2 billion.

In general, the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region saw its M&A deals jump by 68.7% on an annual basis to USD 26.76 billion for 2018. In addition to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and North Africa also boasted blockbuster deals last year, Gulf News added.
