Mexico’s auto sales down 6.5% y/y in October

Automotive sales in Mexico dropped 6.5% year-on-year in October, worsening 5% compared to the 1.5% decline recorded in September, CEEMarketWatch reported citing figures released by the statistics office INEGI.

Sector’s sales decreased in y/y terms every month in 2018 due to the weakness of domestic demand. On the positive side, automotive sales in October advanced 0.6% m/m to 123.317 units.

In this regard, CEEMarketWatch commented that demand for autos has already begun to improve driven by higher consumer income and employment. This source said that sales could potentially recover in a more sustained way in January.
