Mexico’s construction sector to drop 10% in 2019

Mexico’s construction sector could fall by 10% in 2019, M-Brain News Monitoring reported citing a forecast by the local construction industry chamber (CMIC). The president of CMIC, Alvaro Ugalde, said that this projection was motivated by sector’s negative figures in the first half of the year.

In January-April period, construction activity dropped 12.1% y/y and its performance it is not expected to improve in the second half of 2019 due to adverse weather conditions and the festive season in the end of the year. Moreover, Ugalde also expects public works to be affected by the recently approved significant federal and regional budget cuts.
