Mining investment in Peru soars 31.2% y/y in Jan-Apr

Mining investment in Peru jumped 31.2% year-on-year to USD 1.624bn between January and April, Andina news agency reported citing figures released by the Energy and Mines Ministry (MEM). Only in April investment rose 17.2% y/y to USD 431mn, the MEM informed.

Anglo American and Marcobre were the companies that invested the most in the sector during the period of reference. In January-April investment in mining equipment also surged 100.5% to USD 78mn thanks to the significant contribution of these two firms.

Overall, their investments accounted for 30.9% of the total funds, while Southern Peru Copper Corporation and Chinalco Peru’s investments represented 7.8% and 7.6% of the total, respectively.
