New car sales in Argentina up 6.6% y/y in May

New car sales in Argentina increased 6.6% year-on-year in May, CEEMarketWatch reported citing figures released by the Association of Car Dealerships (ACARA).

This result shows significant deceleration compared to the 19.4% y/y hike scored in April, and it is mainly explained by high base of comparison as sector’s sales surged 28% May 2017.

Automotive sales also improved 16.2% y/y during the first five months of 2018, which suggests that the industry could register solid performance this year.

On the other hand, however, CEEMarketWatch reminded that demand will probably decelerate due to the hike in borrowing costs and the rising prices of the cars.
