Poland’s Bank Pekao, Alior Bank give up merger plans

Poland's second-largest lender Bank Pekao and its rival Alior Bank have decided to give up their merger talks, the Budapest Business Journal (BBJ) reported.

The two banks explained their decision with the lack of agreement on the possible merger terms, mainly in the financial segment.

Pekao and Alior announced their plan to deepen their relations last year. They were considering a number of options, including a co-operation and a merger, BBJ noted.
