Polish retail sales growth slows to 4.8% y/y in Oct

Growth of retail sales in Poland slowed to 4.8% on the year for October 2018 from 5.0% on the year a month earlier, CEEMarketWatch reported referring to deflated and calendar-adjusted data provided by Eurostat. On a monthly basis, the October retail sales rose by 0.2% after 0.1% growth in September.

According to data provided by the Polish statistics bureau GUS, real retail sales for October went up by 7.8% on the year and their month-on-month increase was by 6.6%. Vehicle sales, for example, booked a significant increase in the tenth month of the year, growing by 9.7% on the year and by 20.9% on the month.

Analysts expect retail sales to preserve their growth which, combined with the record-low unemployment in the country, should continue to boost private consumption and gross domestic product (GDP), CEEMarketWatch added.
