Russia’s Yamal Airlines cancels purchase of 10 units Sukhoi Superjet 100s

Russian regional carrier Yamal Airlines has decided to cancel its planned purchase of 10 Sukhoi Superjet 100s, The Moscow Times reported. The decision was taken after the same type of aircraft was involved in a fatal crash landing on May 5. A total of 41 people, including at least two children, were killed in the accident.

Despite the fatal event, Russia's transport minister insisted there was no reason to ground the domestically produced aircraft. Yamal’s CEO, Vasily Kryuk, explained the decision with servicing costs which he claimed were too high, The Moscow Times noted.
