South Korea’s domestic supply in manufacturing drops 4.1% y/y in Q1 2019

South Korea's total domestic supply in manufacturing went down by 4.1% on an annual basis for the first quarter of 2019, Yonhap News reported referring to data released by the country’s statistics bureau. Thus, during the reported period, the manufacturing domestic supply index stood at 98.7.

The decline was mainly attributed to Seoul’s decreased facility investment in semiconductors. In the meantime, between January and March 2019, the supply of locally made goods fell by 3.9% on the year, and that of imported products slipped by 4.3%.

The results came as South Korea’s economy showed deterioration at the beginning of 2019. In the first three months of the year, it contracted by about 0.3%, marking its worst performance in almost a decade, Yonhap News added.
