S&P upgrades Qatar’s rating outlook to stable

Agency S&P Global Ratings has upgraded its outlook on Qatar to stable from negative, confirming its “AA-/A-1+” long- and short-term sovereign credit ratings, Qatar Tribune reported. Also, Doha’s transfer and convertibility (T&C) assessment remained unchanged at “AA”.

The agency explained its decision to change its outlook on Qatar with the estimate that the Gulf country would continue to effectively mitigate the economic and financial fallout due to the boycott imposed on Doha in June 2017.

Also, between 2018 and 2021, Qatar is expected to continue to pursue prudent macroeconomic policies. According to S&P, Doha should continue to operate surpluses in external accounts until 2021, Qatar Tribune added.
