Thailand aims to legalise ride-hailing services by Mar 2020
Thailand aims to legalise ride-hailing services by March 2020, Intellasia.Net News reported referring to data released by the country’s transport ministry. Thus, Bangkok has already drafted guidelines to regulate the companies in the sector.
The guidelines include various requirements such as private vehicles to be registered and equipped with a GPS system and drivers to have a public driver's license. As for the companies in the field, they will be asked to verify the identities of drivers and operate a 24-hour complaint centre.
Currently, ride-hailing services exist in a legal gray area in Thailand. However, they are popular among the people in the country as they appear to be cheaper than regular taxis and drivers are more unlikely to refuse to take passengers to their destinations, Intellasia.Net News noted.
