Tourism in the Middle East accounts for 8% of GDP

According to David Scowsill, CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), the travel and tourism sector in the Middle East generated US$ 194.5 bn in 2015, which accounts for 8% of GDP.

Nearly 6 million people are employed in the sector.

WTTC estimates government spending on tourism in the Middle East to grow by 2.6% in 2016 and at 3.5% every year by 2026.

Capital investment in the sector is seen to rise by 5.2% this year and at 5.4% annually by 2026.
