Turkey’s crude steel output rises 2.6% y/y in Apr

Over the reported month, Ankara’s steel exports rose by 22.7% on the year to 1.9 million tonnes. They were worth some USD 1.4 billion. Yet, steel imports plunged by 20.4% to 1.2 million tonnes due to the devaluation of the local currency, combined with weaker domestic economic activity.
Between January and April 2019, Turkey's crude steel output declined by 10.5% on the year to 11.2 million tonnes. In comparison, in 2018, the output edged down by 0.6% year-on-year to 37.3 million tonnes, bne Intellinews noted.
