Turkey to invest TRY 8.75bn in electricity distribution by 2020

Turkey plans to invest TRY 8.75 billion in electricity distribution in 2019 and 2020, Bidsinfo News reported referring to the country’s energy and natural resources minister Fatih Donmez. The official underlined that Ankara had taken important steps to liberalise the energy markets and make it competitive.

For the period between 2016 and 2020, Turkey has already planned to invest TRY 30 billion to renew both transmission and distribution infrastructure. The country has also set clear targets and criteria to enhance service quality for distribution companies, Donmez explained.

In addition, according to Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) Chairman Mustafa Yilmaz, the distribution companies invested TRY 3.5 billion in 2018, Bidsinfo News noted.
