Turkey, Japan may sign free trade agreement in H1 2019

Turkey expects to sign a free trade agreement (FTA) with Japan in the first half of 2019, CEEMarketWatch reported citing the country’s foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. The talks on the deal between the two countries, which started four years ago, will be closed soon, the official underlined.

According to the Turkish statistical institute, Ankara’s imports from Japan in 2017 stood at USD 4.3 billion while trade between the countries accounted for 4.6 billion. Also, Turkey is of significant trade importance to Japan as Ankara is its largest production and export hub in the Middle East, CEEMarketWatch added.
