Uganda Airlines services first flight
National airline Uganda Airlines is already operational and serviced its first flight on August 27, CEEMarketWatch reported. It carried passengers from Entebbe, in the central part of the country, to Kenya’s capital Nairobi.
The new air carrier plans to initially service seven destinations - Nairobi, Mogadishu, Juba, Dar es Salaam, Mombasa, Kilimanjaro and Bujumbura and later this year plans to introduce flights to south and central Africa.
Uganda’s government has reportedly allocated about USD 37 million for the airline project in the 2018/2019 budget but the amount was raised in this in 2019/2020. Last year, the airline inked deals to purchase aircraft from Canada's Bombardier and France's Airbus and their total value was estimated at USD 330 million, CEEMarketWatch noted.
