VW to consider Turkey for new plant location

German car producer Volkswagen (VW) is considering Turkey as one of the possible locations for a new plant, CEEMarketWatch reported referring to information published by German business newspaper Handelsblatt. The amount of the planned investment was not disclosed.

The facility will be used by VW’s daughter company, Skoda, which can no longer expand its production capacities in its home Czech Republic. Yet, the plant is not expected to produce Skoda vehicles only but assemble other models from the Volkswagen group as well.

The German group is supposed to make the decision on the new plant in early 2019 and Bulgaria is said to be Turkey’s strongest competitor for the project, CEEMarketWatch noted.
