Northern Islami Insurance Ltd. is a leading general insurance company located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was incorporated on April 8, 1996, as a public limited company under the Companies Act 1994 and licensed under the Insurance Act, 1938. The company is authorized to conduct all types of general insurance business, excluding life insurance. It has an authorized capital of Tk. 2500 million and a paid-up capital of Tk. 60 million. The company obtained its certificate of commencement of business on the same day it was incorporated. It is registered with the Department of Insurance and operates under the maxim "A key to Protection." In order to operate its insurance business based on Islami Shariah, the company made necessary changes to its Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association. These changes were approved in an Extra Ordinary General Meeting held on October 14, 20219. Subsequently, the company obtained permission to operate its business based on Islami Shariah and changed its name from Northern General Insurance Co. Ltd. to Northern Islami Insurance Limited. This change was approved by the Insurance Development & Regulatory Authority (IDRA) and the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies & Firms (RJSC). The company formed a Shariah Council and started its insurance business on Islami Shariah principles in December 2019.
