Bulgaria's largest pharmaceuticals group Actavis AD, former Balkanpharma Holding, is active in the development, manufacture and sale of generic pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and other healthcare products.
It produces some 300 pharmaceutical products and is one of the largest companies within the Icelandic generic drug group Actavis, former Pharmaco.
In December 2000, Pharmaco acquired Balkanpharma Holding, which owned controlling interests in three local drug plants - Balkanpharma-Dupnitsa, which focuses on solid dose drugs, Balkanpharma-Razgrad - specialised in antibiotics, and Balkanpharma-Troyan that produces liquid drugs only.
Actavis Operations is in charge of management of production and investment in the drug-making plants in Dupnitsa, Troyan and Razgrad.
