Alcomet, which was established in 1981, is one of the largest manufacturer of aluminium products in Bulgaria. Its main products are extrusions and rollings made of aluminium and aluminium alloys.
In 1999, Bulgaria sold the aluminium maker to a consortium of Turkey's FAF Metal Ltd. and the local management-employee buyout Alumina Invest for USD 9.0 million. After that a 74% stake in the company was transferred to the private company Alumetal, where FAF Metal has a majority stake. Directly and indirectly, Turkey's FAF Metal controlled some 91% in the aluminium maker at the end of 2005.
The production facilities of Alcomet, which are located in the town of Shumen, span over a total area of 370,000 square meters. The production is organised into 3 divisions - casting shop, rolling mill and extrusion shop. The annual capacity of the the casting shop is 78 thousands tons, of the rolling mill 45 thousands tons and of the extrusion shop 23 thousands tons.
