Alukom AD (Bulgaria)

Alucom, which was established in 1967, is one of the largest aluminum castings producers on the Balkans.
It was a huge supplier of aluminum castings for the military, engine trucks and machine-building industries for the ex-Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.
By 1989, the company's production volume was estimated at 1,000 tonnes of aluminum castings per month.
However, the company sales plunged after the disintegration of former communist trade block COMECOM in 1990 and its annual output shrank to 7,000 tonnes in 2001.
Alucom, which is based in the northern town of Pleven, uses three methods for the production of aluminum cast parts - low-pressure, counter-pressure and high-pressure die-casting methods.
In 1997, U.S.-registered Aluingeneering acquired a 75% stake in the company for an undisclosed sum.
Aluingenering is controlled by Bulgaria's private industrial conglomerate Metal Technology Group - Angel Balevski Holding, which runs four other metal works in Bulgaria.
In 2003, Alucom executed a USD 2.5 million production order from Korean industrial group Hyundai.
Another foreign partner of the company is German automobile service equipment maker Beissbarth.
At present, the company exports some 60% of its output mainly to Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria and Belgium.
In 2008, Alucom was certified with Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2004.
