Balkanpharma Troyan, which was established in 1953, is the one of the largest producers of pharmaceuticals in Bulgaria.
The company is a successor of state-owned Troyanpharm. It sells more than 90% of its production abroad.
Balkanpharma Troyan has a product portfolio of over 100 pharmaceuticals including tablets, syrups, capsules, infusion solutions, creams, ointments, gel forms, anti-acid suspensions, granules and aerosols.
In June 1999, local company Balkanpharma became Bulgaria's largest pharmaceuticals group after acquiring three drug makers – Troyanpharm, which produces liquid drugs only, an antibiotics maker in Razgrad and a plant in Dupnitsa, which focuses on solid dose drugs. The total sum of the deal was USD 24 million.
In December 2000, Iceland-based generic drugs maker Pharmaco (later renamed Actavis) acquired Balkanpharma Holding, gaining control of its three plants.
Currently, Balkanpharma Troyan is part of Actavis Group and is operated and owned by Actavis Operations EOOD.
