Bulgarian River Shipping company (BRS), established in 1935, is based in the Danube River port of Russe. The firm offers the following services - water transportation of bulk, general, liquid and oversized cargo, container transportation between Constanta and Belgrade, ferry transportation between Nikopol and Turnu Magurele, freight forwarding services, Danube river cruises.
In May 2004, 30% in the company were purchased for some EUR 5.6 million in compensatory papers by local diversified holding group Alfa Finance Holding. In June 2005, Bulgarian authorities selected Kaolin buyer of the 70% stake in BRS. The mineral extraction firm offered EUR 13.2 million for the stake and pledged to invest another EUR 20 million in BRS over the next five years. However, in December 2005 the company withdrew from the sell-off. In June 2006, Bulgarian government approved the sale of its 70% stake in BRS to Chimimport for EUR 11.2 million.
