Central Cooperative Bank (CCB) was founded in 1991 by the Central Cooperative Union, district cooperative unions and other companies. It was established to support the development of co-operation organisations in the country.
The bank is a public company and its shares are offered for secondary trade on the official market of the Bulgarian stock exchange.
In October 2001, Bulgaria offered for sale a 32.77% state stake in Central Cooperative Bank through a sealed bid procedure as part of pledges to sell major state assets rapidly to fund its economic programme. Private Bulgarian trading company Chimimport was the sole bidder for the stake in CCB, offering BGN 6.0 million. Another major shareholder in CCB at the time of the sale was the Central Cooperative Union, which held 23.45%.
In February 2008, CCB bought a 62.57% stake in Macedonian private commercial bank Sileks Bank, following a successful takeover bid.
