Dupnitsa BT was incorporated in 1993 after the restructuring of state-owned tobacco company Bulgartabak into a holding structure with 22 subsidiaries. The company is dealing with processing, stemming and drying of leaf tobacco. Bulgartabac Holding auctioned its 85.35% stake in the company in June 2007 and it was sold to the local person Vencho Stoilkov Bachev. This was the fourth attempt of the holding to sell the idled tobacco processing unit.
In 2009 the company halted its tobacco processing and purchasing activities.
