Hyundai Heavy Industries Co Bulgaria is an electrical components manufacturer that is part of South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., one of the world's largest shipbuilders. It is a successor of Bulgaria's power transformer maker Elprom-Trapho, which was established in 1949.
In July 1997, Hyundai Corp acquired 70% of Elprom-Trapho for USD 2.9 million. Hyundai pledged to invest USD 4.0 million over the next five years in modernising the Sofia-based company. Of the remaining shares, 20% were offered to company employees and 10% were sold under Bulgaria's mass privatisation programme. In December 1997, Elprom Trafo changed its name to Hyundai Elprom Trafo AD.
