General insurance company Lev Ins, established in 1996, is one of main players in the insurance segment in Bulgaria and offers a full range of non-life insurance products. The company was licensed to provide reinsurance services in the summer of 2006.
As at mid-2007, the company is controlled by local Lev Corporation with a stake of 28%, and Israeli firms Rahiti Meir Classic and Yaad Pirsul 1984, with stakes of 25.2% each. Swiss-registered investment group Julius Baer bought a 9.9% stake in Bulgarian general insurance company Lev Ins for BGN 35 million (EUR 17.9 million) in late July 2007. Julius Baer bought 1.3 million shares in the insurer via two of its funds. The deal has been registered with the country's central depository, the insurer reported without naming the seller of the shares.
According to the Financial Supervision Commission`s report for 2013, the company ranked first on the general insurance market with a market share of 13.4% based on direct premiums.
