Sofia Med is a Bulgarian company specialized in the production of rolled and extruded copper, copper alloy and zinc products. The manufacturing facilities of the Sofia-based firm are organized in 3 units - Foundry, Rolling and Extrusion mills, which span over 250,000 square meters. The product range of the company features 3 main groups - Industrial, Building and Extruded copper and brass products.
Sofia Med, which was established in 1937, is a successor of local non-ferrous metal products maker KOCM. In May 1997, Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sold 57% of KOCM to local company Bulmetal Sofia for USD 2.5 million, payable half in cash and half in government bonds. The buyer pledged to invest USD 12.3 million in the company in the next five years and settle USD 4.9 million and DEM 6.0 million of the firm's debts towards the state and creditors. However, the new owner failed to meet its investment commitments and the plant halted production in 1999 and was later put in the hands of the court. In December 1999, Greek Halcor acquired the assets of the KOCM for an undisclosed amount, and established a new company called Sofia Med.
