V-Gas Bulgaria, former Shell Gas Bulgaria, is one of the leading companies in the Bulgarian liquified petroleum gas (LPG) market. The firm is engaged in the filling of LPG cylinders with liquid gas. It offers LPG for industrial and home needs.
Shell Gas Bulgaria launched operations in January 1999 by opening a USD 10 million LPG plant near the country's second-largest city of Plovdiv.
In June 2007, Bulgaria’s antitrust watchdog said it allowed French oil and gas distributor Rubis to buy the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) business of Royal Dutch Shell in Bulgaria. The deal is part of the strategy Shell announced earlier in 2007, to sell its LPG businesses in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Romania, Spain and Switzerland to Rubis. Shell Bulgaria said the company will continue to expand its network of fuel stations in the country despite the withdrawal from the LPG segment.
In November 2010, The Bulgarian Commission for Competition Protection has approved a deal which allows a Bulgarian company, Erast EOOD, to buy the Vitogaz Bulgaria propane-butane cylinders producer.
