Puerto Central S.A. (Chile)

Puerto Central S.A. is a company located in Santiago, Chile. It was incorporated in July 2011 with the purpose of constructing, developing, maintaining, repairing, and operating the Costanera Espigón dock at the Port of San Antonio. The company was awarded the concession for the dock in May 2011 through a bidding process carried out by the Port Company of San Antonio. The concession contract was signed on August 8, 2011, and has a duration of 20 years, with the possibility of a 10-year extension. The concession contract includes a schedule of mandatory infrastructure works and optional equipment. The main investment project involves the construction of a new 700-meter dock called Muelle Costanera, with the first phase of 350 meters completed in November 2015 and operational in the first quarter of 2016. The project also includes the necessary port equipment for container transfer. In 2016, Phase 1A of the investment project was completed, allowing for the handling of container ships. In 2017, the final phase of the Muelle Costanera project was completed, resulting in a 700-meter dock equipped with 7 Liebherr STS super post-panamax cranes, capable of serving ships with 22 rows of containers, and 14 Kalmar RTG cranes for container handling in the 36-hectare backup areas owned by DP World. The project also includes dredging to a depth of -15 meters NRS, over 2,000 plugs for refrigerated containers, and a modern container management software called Navis. This project represents the largest infrastructure and equipment investment made by a private company in Chile's port sector. In early 2019, DP World became the majority shareholder of Puertos y Logística S.A. (Pulogsa), the parent company of Puerto Central in San Antonio and Puerto Lirquén in Concepción. DP World aims to achieve operational excellence and introduce new paradigms aligned with trade facilitation and the contribution to the country, the city of San Antonio, and its people.
