Banco de La República was founded in 1880. It is a unique State body, with administrative, financial and technical autonomy, which exercises the functions of central banking. The special functions assigned to the Bank include regulating the currency, international exchange and credit, issuing the Colombian legal currency, managing international reserves, being a lender and banker of credit establishments, and serving as the government's fiscal agent. As part of its functions, the Bank also contributes to the generation of knowledge and to the cultural activity of the country.
