Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura provides port and logistics services. Within the framework of privatization for port activities, on December 21, 1993 the company was created and on March 17, 1994 it received the 20-year concession (from 1994 to 2014) to manage the Buenaventura Port Terminal from the hands of Colombian President César Gaviria Trujillo. Sociedad Portuaria Regional de Buenaventura S.A. is a mixed economy company governed by private law. Eighty-three percent (83%) of the stock is privately owned and belongs to businessmen comprised of importers, exporters, port operators, shipping lines, unions, former port workers and individuals. The remaining 17% is in the hands of the public sector consisting of the Buenaventura's Mayor's Office and the Ministries of Transportation and Agriculture.
