NBK Egypt, or Al Watany, was launched in 2007, after the National Bank of Kuwait acquired Alwatany Bank of Egypt (AWB). AWB has been operating since 1980. Its services are structures into four main divisions, namely retail banking, Islamic banking, corporate banking and financial markets. The focus of its financing activities is on big and small investors and institutional clients. The bank is engaged in financing the privatization of heavy-weighted companies. Furthermore, it has strongly contributed in financing the domestic debt through investing in the government treasury bills and bonds.
